This holiday is a joyful affirmation of the mitzvah of Torah study. During the Simchat Torah service, we read the last Torah portion, then proceed immediately to the first chapter of Genesis, reminding us that the Torah is a circle, and never ends. We celebrate with processions (Hakafot) around the sanctuary carrying the Torah scrolls and dancing to the music. Many congregations unroll parts of the Torah scroll for all to see.
